The Azores comprises nine islands. The islands are quite unique due to their volcanic formation. They have remained off the radar of mainstream tourism thus far so are ripe for discovery.

The Azores are Portuguese islands however they are 1,460 km from the European coast and 3,750 km from America. The location of the islands has meant they have always retained their traditions.

Azores is not party central and is not choc full of sandy beaches. It is a great place to go for some relaxation time. Outdoor types will adore it here with plenty of water sports on offer as well as walking and cycling tours. Each island is waiting to be explored.

The temperature remains relatively warm throughout the year. You will always find swimmers in the waters of Azores. Keep an eye out for dolphins. The nine islands of Azores are;

Ponta Delgada Airport is the main airport on the islands. It is situated on the island of Sao Miguel.
Corvo Island is smallest of the islands. Here you will find traditional village life. It is a very quiet island to spend time on. Those with an interest in art history will want to visit Flores Island where there are some wonderful buildings such as the Nossa Senhora da Conceiptao church, Ethnographic Museum and Sao Boaventura. If you fancy somewhere scenic for a nice spot of lunch then head for the Ribeira Grande Waterfall.
